3rd-gen Mégane moved to the Renault–Nissan C platform with improved body rigidity and safety; the RS gained more developed chassis tuning and stability electronics, with a later facelift updating styling and equipment.

Turbocharged 2.0L inline‑4 with a 6‑speed manual and FWD; RS 265 uses higher-boost/intake-exhaust and ECU calibration for 265 PS and 360 Nm, paired with a sport chassis (Cup chassis could be equipped with an LSD depending on market/spec).
