The 3rd-gen 964 modernized the 911 with ABS and power steering, and switched to coil springs from torsion bars. It also introduced new driveline/transmission options (Carrera 4 AWD and later Tiptronic), improving stability, usability, and refinement.
Powered by the naturally aspirated 3.6L M64 flat-six, typically with a 5-speed manual (Tiptronic became available later in the 964 run in some markets). Rear-engine, rear-wheel drive for Carrera 2, with more modern engine management and chassis tuning.
