The 2012 S 500 (W221) is commonly the 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 (M273) paired with a 7G‑Tronic automatic, tuned for smoothness, low-end torque and refinement. Some markets later used a 4.7L twin‑turbo V8 (M278), but that is a different displacement.
