Final Spirit R edition: lightweight twin‑rotor turbo with a sharp, balanced chassis. Low, clean proportions and a focused cockpit deliver smooth boost and a distinctive high‑rev soundtrack.
The 3rd-gen FD introduced a lighter body and a more advanced sequential twin-turbo rotary, with improved chassis rigidity and more refined handling. Later updates focused on cooling/reliability and detail equipment. The Spirit R is the final special edition with upgraded suspension/brakes and limited-run specs.
Powered by the 13B-REW 1.3L twin-rotor with sequential twin-turbocharging, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed or 6-speed manual (Spirit R commonly 6MT). Late-model tuning was capped around Japan’s 280 PS agreement, focusing on high-rev response and lightweight performance.
