The 1st-gen V-Rod family introduced the Porsche-co-developed Revolution liquid-cooled V-twin with a higher-revving character and EFI, paired with a modern chassis aimed at sportier handling. The 2012 update focused mainly on equipment and styling details (Night Rod Special with a darker, more performance-oriented look).

Powertrain uses the 1,247cc Revolution liquid-cooled 60° V-twin with electronic fuel injection, typically mated to a 5-speed gearbox and belt final drive in the VRSC family.
