The 1st-gen Transit Custom focused on improved body rigidity and payload/cargo efficiency, with expanded safety and fleet-oriented features; the later facelift brought updated styling and upgraded cabin tech (infotainment/driver aids).

Primarily a 2.2L turbo-diesel inline-four (Duratorq TDCi) with a 6-speed manual (automatic available in some markets). Common-rail direct injection and turbocharging deliver strong low-end torque for commercial use.
