The 1st-gen i4 launched on BMW’s CLAR platform with 5th-generation BMW eDrive, integrating the e-motor, inverter and reduction gear into a compact unit. A floor-mounted modular battery lowers the center of gravity, while improved energy recuperation and thermal management enhance efficiency and range.
The i4 eDrive35 uses a single rear-mounted motor (synchronous electric motor) driving the rear wheels, rated at 210 kW and 400 Nm, with a single-speed reduction gear. A floor-mounted high-voltage lithium-ion battery supports multi-level/automatic regenerative braking, with power electronics managing delivery and recuperation for efficiency.
