The 1st-gen i3 introduced a CFRP carbon-fiber passenger cell with an aluminum chassis, a single-speed eDrive and strong regenerative braking. The 2017 facelift brought larger battery options (94Ah/120Ah) plus updated iDrive and driver-assistance features, improving range and usability.

Pure-electric rear-wheel-drive eDrive with a single-speed reduction gear. The 120Ah uses ~42.2 kWh gross (~37.9 kWh usable) battery, rated at 125 kW peak and 250 Nm, with regenerative braking and selectable drive modes.
