The 1st-gen 4 Series Coupe split from the 3 Series Coupe as a standalone model line, with a lower/wider stance and a more driver-focused setup. It broadened the use of turbocharged 4- and 6-cylinder engines, paired with an 8-speed automatic, plus drive modes, modern iDrive connectivity and available driver-assistance tech for improved performance and efficiency.
The 428i uses BMW’s 2.0L N20 turbocharged inline-four (twin-scroll turbo, direct injection, Valvetronic) with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic. It is primarily RWD, with optional xDrive AWD depending on market/trim, targeting strong low-end torque and good efficiency.
