The 1st-gen 2 Series Active Tourer introduced BMW’s UKL2 front-wheel-drive architecture, bringing EfficientDynamics tech (turbo direct injection, start/stop, brake energy regeneration), expanded driver-assistance and connectivity features, and a more versatile MPV-style packaging.

The 218i uses the 1.5L B38 turbocharged direct-injection 3-cylinder petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or an Aisin 6-speed automatic (Steptronic). It emphasizes low-end torque and efficiency via start/stop and brake energy regeneration.
